      Passage: 2 Peter 1:19-21

Cornelius understood authority and the chain of command. He expected his soldiers to obey his directives immediately and he did the same when give a command by his superior officers. When Peter arrived at his home, Cornelius gave us a living example of how to be a good soldier for Christ. He gave attention to God’s Word. He told Peter that were all ready to hear what God had to say to them. Their answer was already, “Yes, Sir.” They just needed to know what they needed to know and do. Peter shared the gospel and before he finished talking, Cornelius and those in the house, believed in Jesus and received Him into their lives. The evidence given was the spoke in a language they did not know, but Peter and the others did know. The language evidence of the Holy Spirit was not normative for all believers, but it was necessary for Peter and those with him to realize God saved the Gentiles in the exact same way he saved the Jews - by grace through faith.

The Bible you have is not just another book written by men. It is God’s Word, which He inspired men to write down so we could know Him. No other book that claims to be a book of faith is like that. The false religions of man all have their books that were written by one person over a short period of time and they have contradictions throughout. The Bible is 66 individual books/letters/compilations of writings that was written of a period of nearly 1600 years, with around 40 different authors, who lived on three different continents and wrote in three different languages. (Hebrew, Chaldean, Greek) and most did not have the writings of others to look on. Yet, they wrote with a unity of message and purpose, with accuracy and future predictions that is unexplainable apart from realizing there is a divine author over them. Ultimately, the Bible, God’s inspired word, points to Jesus, God’s Incarnate Word. God gave you His Word so you could know Him and then live the life He designed for you to live. Pay attention to it and be a good soldier for Christ.
