Be Content Where You Are

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. . .. When Peter saw him, he asked, ‘Lord, what about him?’ Jesus answered, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.’ ” (John 21:20-22)
     Passage: 1 Corinthians 12:1-31

After Jesus told Peter directly that he would die a martyr’s death, Peter saw John and asked a very normal question, “What about him?” Jesus’ response was one that each of us as believers needs to hear and understand for our own lives. Don’t compare yourself with anyone else in how God uses them or where God puts them. Be content with where God has you and serve Him with your gifts and talents right where you are.
In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul shares how God has uniquely gifted every believer and placed every person in His body right where He wants them to be. If He opens a new place for you in life and service and leads you to go, follow Him there, but don’t always be looking to move and do not complain about the place you are currently. Give your best to Him and let Him use you right there. One day, you will give account for your life and service. You will not be compared to anyone else and though none of us will be able to claim that we have merited anything, our heavenly reward will be based on our faithfulness to God’s call to our lives in the places He puts us. Thank God for the privilege you have to serve Jesus and show your love for Him by being content to serve Him right where you are today.
