  Passage: Isaiah 59:1-2; 2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus, God the Son, was not born with a sin nature. As the second Adam, He never gave in to temptation. He never sinned one time in thought, word or deed. From eternity, before time began, until He went to the cross, there was never a millisecond that the relationship He had as God the Son with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit was broken. But there was a moment on the cross when the full weight of sin was laid upon Him. Jesus didn’t become a sinner. He became sin and took upon Himself the penalty of sin for all mankind.
The cry of Jesus to God was a direct quote from Psalm 22:1. It expressed the agony of the experience of separation from God that came when Jesus carried our sin. His work on the cross made it possible for anyone to have salvation and eternal life in heaven. God’s only requirement is for a person to believe and confess Jesus as Lord. (Romans 10:9-10) On the cross, Jesus carried our sin. He changes the life of anyone who believes.
