Be Conscious of God’s Presence

Pray – (1/2 minute)

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priest, elders and teachers of the law came together. Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. . . .” (Mark 14:53-54a)
  Passage: Psalm 139:1-10

If you are old enough, you remember when many cars came with bucket seats. Those seats allowed someone to sit right next to the driver, which was how many dating couples would sit. I heard of an older couple who stopped behind a young couple at a red light. The wife, who was sitting by the passenger door, noticed that the young couple was sitting so close together they looked like they had one body and two heads. She looked over at her husband and asked, “Why aren’t we like that anymore?” He looked back at her and replied, “Well. I haven’t moved.”
When you look at your relationship with Christ, are you closer to Him now than when you first believed and received Him? Are you growing deeper in your love and commitment? If not, you can be sure of one thing. He hasn’t moved. When Peter was bold in his statement about not denying Jesus, he was close to Jesus physically. When he later denied Jesus, he was away from Jesus. His physical location is a picture of the spiritual location many believers find themselves in. Instead of staying close to Him, they begin following at a distance. Be conscious of God’s presence today. Live close to Him for He is always close to you.
