God House is to be a Place where God’s People are Edified

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “So the elders of the Jews continued to build and prosper under the preaching of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah, a descendant of Iddo.” (Ezra 6:14b)
  Passage: 2 Timothy 3:14-17

        Do you remember what you ate yesterday? How about a week ago? What about this day last year? I don’t. When I look back and think about all the meals I have eaten in my life, there are very few that I can remember where I was and what I ate. However, every meal provided nourishment that my body needed. In the same way, the preaching and teaching of the Word of God provides spiritual nourishment. There may be a few sermons you remember, but even then, you only remember the main idea, an illustration or a statement. Yet every sermon provided nourishment for your spirit.         Hebrews 4:12 tells us that “the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even the dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thought and attitudes of the heart.” When the family of God gathers in the house of God, the food for the spirit is to be the preaching and teaching of the Word. God’s word will speak to you. It will strengthen you. It will sustain you. Even when you don’t remember what you heard later, the word will edify you and build you up as you let the Lord feed you.
