America needs a Fresh Awakening

(2 Chronicles 7:14)
   Passage: 1 Peter 2:9-17

       God used the Great Awakening to bring thousands to Christ and to lay the foundational principles of freedom which would lead to the establishment of the nation. Those of us who live in the United States of America are blessed to live in this great land, but we are not loved more by God or inherently used more by God because that. The gospel is not dependent on any political system, in fact, the gospel often is received the most by people who have the least political freedoms. The blessings of God in the past are also not guarantees of His blessings in the future.
       After the Revolutionary War and leading up to the ratification of the Constitution, the spiritual life of America began to decline and some predicted that Christianity would not last in America. God sent a 2nd Great Awakening which began around 1795 and lasted about 40 years. After that, another Awakening was needed to give the final impetus politically and socially to bring slavery to an end, though it also took a bloody Civil War to do it.  Other movements of God have come and today, we need to see an Awakening again. Pray for our churches to lead the way to call people to Christ and for a powerful movement to move across our land.
