Follow Jesus Fully

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector name Levi, sitting at the tax booth. And He said to Him, ‘Follow me.’ And leaving everything, he rose and followed Him.” (Luke 5:27)
Passage: Luke 5:1-11
One of the simplest, yet most powerful songs for believers came out of India. In the late 1800’s, a Scottish missionary shared the gospel among a northeastern tribe in India. A man and his family became believers, but the tribal leaders were enraged by their conversion. The family was brought before the village chief and told to publicly renounced their faith or they would be killed. The father, speaking for the family said boldly, “I have decided to follow Jesus”. The chief order the archers to shoot the man’s boys and after they did, he asked if the father would recant. He answered, “Though no one join me, still I will follow.” The chief then ordered that the man and his wife be killed. Not long after, the chief was so convicted by the determination of the man and his family, that he confessed Jesus and became a Christian. The tribe followed and there was a great movement in the area. Out of that, an Indian evangelist picked up the words and wrote the song, “I have decided to follow Jesus.”

There is very little chance that following Jesus will cost you your physical life in America, but God calls you to follow Jesus with a determination that would stand in the face of that if you were told to deny or die. Across the centuries, millions of believers have made that choice and God has used their testimonies to change the world and they have received special reward in heaven. There is nothing in this world that can offer true life now and eternal life in heaven. Jesus can. Determine to follow Him with all your heart and let Him shine through you.
