Follow Jesus and Live by Faith

Pray – (1/2 minutes)

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “As they were walking along the road, a man said to Him, ‘I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.’ ” (Luke 9:57-58)
   Passage: Romans 1:14-17

        The man boldly proclaim he would follow Jesus everywhere. Matthew 8:19 tells us that he was a scribe, or teacher of the law. He knew the scriptures and he was a committed Jew. He had a religion, but he still felt dissatisfied in his soul. Then Jesus came along. The crowds following Jesus at this point were still large. The miracles were beyond anything anyone could imagine, and his emotions were stirred with the thought that Jesus may be the long-awaited Messiah.
       Jesus didn’t question the man’s sincerity. He confronted him at the point of his security. When Jesus spoke of not having a place to lay His head, He wasn’t saying He was literally homeless. He had a home in Nazareth, where He has grown up. Jesus recognized that this man had his security tied to the things of the world and he was telling him that the life of a disciple is to be a life of faith. Faith trusts God’s care and knows that He is the only one who gives true security to life. Thank God for what you have, but don’t rest your security in those things or pine for what you don’t have. Live by faith and trust God. He will take care of you.
