Keep Yourself Useful for God’s Kingdom
Pray – (1/2 minute)
Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:6-7)
Passage: Psalm 103:6-12
A preacher saw a yard sign by a used lawnmower offering it for sale for $10. He asked the boy who was selling it if the lawnmower worked. The preacher wanted to make sure, so he began to pull the starter cord. It didn’t start. He looked at the boy and said, “I thought you said it worked.” The boy replied, “It does, but you have to cuss when you’re pulling the cord.” The preacher answered, “Young man, I’ve been a Christian for 50 years and a preacher for 40 years. I’ve long since forgotten how to curse.” The boy replied, “Mister, just keep pulling on that rope. It’ll come back to you!”
As long as you live on this side of heaven, you will never been perfect even though you have received Christ and have His Spirit within you. Sin comes back in many ways, but God promises that you can experience His cleansing power because of what Jesus has done for you. Keep short accounts of sin and when you fall, confess your sin to God, make things right if you have hurt someone else and keep yourself useful for His Kingdom.
