Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Arab son of Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria over Israel twenty-two years. Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the Lord than any of those before him.” (1 Kings 16:29-30)
     Passage: Psalm 136:1-5

In the 1950’s, Gallup polls showed that around 98% of Americans said they believed in God. In a 2022 poll, that number had dropped to 81% of all Americans and under 70% among those between 18-29 years old. At the same time, those who were members of any Christian church fell from 70% of Americans to 47% and falling. All of these things correspond to a culture that has become more opposed to biblical, moral values. The condition we see today is not new. Throughout history, there have been periods where it appeared that the influence of the gospel was about to be lost, but God brought revival to His people and spiritual awaking to the country.

All the spiritual awakenings have principles that are found in the history of God’s people. One period that was in need of revival and awakening was the time of King Ahab of Israel. He was one of the most wicked, godless kings of that northern kingdom, but then God raised up a man to be a prophet and call the people back to Himself. That man was Elijah. Throughout history, God has used people like Elijah and God wants to use you and believers like you today.
