Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. . . Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.” (Acts 2:42-46)
Passage: Hebrews 10:19-25
Have you ever planned an event, invited people to come, spent a lot of time in preparations, only to have just a few people show up? If you have, you know how discouraging that was. On the other hand, have you had the same kind of situation, but had a large percentage of those invited come to the event or. If the event was an open invitation, to see more people come than you may have thought? The mere presence of people has an encouraging effect. The absence of people has a discouraging effect.
One of the examples we have from the first believers is that they were committed to be present regularly as the church began meeting together, whether in small groups in homes or in large worship gatherings. The Book of Acts doesn’t tell us exactly when Barnabas became a believer, but by the reputation he had as a great encourager, it is certain that he was present regularly and being supportive of the church’s leadership after he received Christ. Don’t ever discount the importance of your presence. Just by showing up regularly in worship and in your Bible Study group each week, you are encouraging those who spent a lot of time preparing to lead and share the Word with those who come.
