Living Examples - Dorcas - A Beautiful Life

Read – (2 1/2 minutes) – “He has made everything beautiful in its time. . .” (Ecclesiastes 3:11a)   
      Passage: Psalm 126:1-6

        God is the author of beauty. He designed the beauty of creation with all of its diversity, shapes and colors. He created mankind in His image and wired into people the attraction to beauty and the desire to be attractive. Since God designed creation and people with diversity, what some think of as beautiful is not the same as what others think. That is why there is a saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

In the area of physical attractiveness, there is nothing wrong in seeking to present yourself as good as you can. We are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) and we are stewards of our bodies. However, the sin nature in man has turned God’s design upside down and it causes the world to put a greater emphasis on striving for beauty on the outside and not the inside. God is more concerned with the inside and the truest beauty of life is found there. One living example of a beautiful woman is Dorcas, who is introduced to us in Acts 9:36-43. We have no idea what she looked like on the outside, but she was a beautiful woman on the inside, so much so that God brought her back to life in one of the two life returning miracles in Acts. She lived a beautiful life and you can too.
